Ten color stories that hold a room in memory.

CultureSchool’s palettes are cohesive when they land and described by role — but customizable for your client.

Choose your use

Each palette is shown as textile and full room. More than a mood board, we show the same five colors in a complete project and by the roles they can play in your project.

60Walls, ceilings, the ground the room stands on
30Upholstery, drapery, the second surface
10Cushions, art, the thing the eye lands on
GroundFloor and joinery, holding it all down

Then make it theirs

Every palette here is a starting point, not a rule. Visit the CoCo Color Lab to customize a scheme toward a client’s preferences, a venue’s existing stone, or a fabric choice — without losing cohesion.

In the compound behind Makola Market, Samuel's loom holds threads the color of shea butter and red earth, the same copper-brown his grandmother taught him to dye using kola nut bark. The warp beams are aged wood, almost black from decades of palm oil and handling, while the finished cloth catches light like sun on harmattan dust. These are the colors that dress a wedding, fill a table at outdooring, mark the walls of a home where celebration begins with what your hands can make.

The Wampanoag have been digging clay from these island banks for thousands of years — that rust-red ochre that stains your hands, the deep brown-black of fired pottery, the grey of beach stones smoothed by Vineyard Sound. White clapboard and red geraniums came later, with the whaling captains and the Methodist campground, but they're island now too. These are the colors you see walking from Aquinnah cliffs to Oak Bluffs gingerbread, the palette that belongs on a summer table set for quahog chowder and wine.

By noon the light on the Gallatin Range is white and absolute, bleaching the granite and flattening every shadow. Then the afternoon starts its slow negotiation — the slate-blue of distant ridgelines, the burnt copper of dried grasses catching the last angle of sun, the way a stranger's sunburned shoulder looks at the trailhead around six o'clock, that particular peachy warmth that only happens at elevation. The dark comes in fast and deliberate out here, a near-black that isn't city-dark but something older. Bring this palette to a harvest table, a mountain lodge, a wedding held in a field before the temperature drops — it holds the whole arc of a Western day without trying to explain it.

The moment just before dinner when the rosé in stemware catches the last gold light, and someone's red lipstick has left its mark on linen napkins that started the afternoon pristine white. Weathered cedar shingles on the old cottage, that particular sage-olive of beach grass in August, and the oyster shells scattered near the outdoor shower—all of it suspended in that syrupy, glamorous hour when day becomes night. These are the colors of summer houses where elegance is supposed to look effortless, where every table is set like someone might take a photograph.
